Puritans were very superstitious and they believed that witches had to do with the devil. People around the seventeenth century who lived in New England believed that a witch was a person who had made a pact with Satan and therefore had strange and terrible powers. But the most common way was for them to be hung. No matter how they were killed it was always in public to teach a lesson to others and show what would happen to them if they committed the crime of witchcraft.
