Today, the department of corrections supports more community outreach programs for inmates. A growing interest can be observed regarding inmate recidivism and prevention strategies. There is now a greater emphasis placed on building and maintaining the inmates relationships with family, the community, and society. The less isolated the inmate becomes from outside social life, the easier it will be for him/her to reintegrate back into society, thus decreasing the recidivism rates of these offenders.
