Although there are differences in the outcomes of their lives, Douglass and Sethe had similar characteristics like: fighting against slavery, struggling with their history, uprising from their masters. Characters similar to them were the driving force in the abolition of slavery. The experiences of their lives gave them to courage and strength to stand up for what they believe in.
