Make a decision on your essay topic

In order to write an essay you should define a topic. A professor can either provide you with the topic or ask to come up with your own. Let's take a look at these two circumstances.

If the Topic for an Essay Has Been Assigned
If the topic for your essay has been provided you should think about the type of a paper you are expected to produce. Does it have to be a general overview, or a specific analysis of the topic? If it has to be an overview, then you are probably ready to move to the next step. If it has to be a specific analysis, make sure your topic is clearly defined. If it is too general, you must choose a narrower subtopic to discuss.

For example, the topic titled "Australia" is quite general. If your objective is to write an overview, this topic is suitable. If your objective is to write a specific analysis, this topic is too general. You must narrow it to something like "Political Situation in Australia" or "Culture of Australian Population."

You can proceed further once the topic of your essay has been determined.

If the Topic for an Essay Has Not Been Assigned
If the topic for your essay hasn’t been provided then you should turn on your creativity and come up with a good title. The task of choosing your own topic is very exciting and interesting. You can write about whatever you want that interests you the most. When you know what to write about it makes essay writing process easier because all information is already in your head and you do not have to search for it in the books, magazines, journals, or Internet. Also, you can order a custom written essay and one of our writers will come up with the topic and deliver an original, well-written paper.

Define Your Purpose
In the very beginning you should think about the purpose of your essay. Is your purpose to persuade people, to explain them how to complete a particular task, to educate them about some person, place, thing or idea? No matter what the topic of your essay is it should correspond to the purpose.

Brainstorm on Essay Topics
Once you have determined the purpose of your essay, write down possible essay topics - things you are fond of and interest you the most. One of such ideas can be used as the topic for your essay. The more ideas you have on the list the easier it will be for you to get started with essay writing.

If the task is hard for you, start looking around. Is there anything that attracts you? Think about your life, your hobbies. How do you spend most of your time? This can be a topic for your essay.

Evaluate Each Potential Topic
If you can come up with at least a few topics that would be appropriate, you must simply consider each one separately. Think about how you feel about that topic. If your task is to educate, be sure you have a lot of information about this topic. If your task is to persuade, be sure it is the topic about which you are at least passionate. Of course, the most important thing when choosing a topic is the number of ideas you have about that topic.

Once you have selected the topic you should think about the type of the essay you are expected to produce. Should it be a general overview, or a specific analysis of the topic? If it has to be an overview, then you are ready to proceed to the next step. If it has to be a specific analysis, you should make sure your topic is specific. If it is too general, you must choose a narrower subtopic to discuss.

For example, the topic titled "New York" is quite general. If your objective is to write an overview, this topic is suitable. If your objective is to write a specific analysis, this topic is too general. You must narrow it to something like "Living Conditions in New York" or "Education system in New York Schools"
