Both heroines see apparitions before their death, both protagonists, Anna and Emma, realize the stupidity of killing themselves. I believe that the resemblance between both novels is evident. I find it curiously interesting how they both see apparitions that represent everything they hoped not to become before dying. Their ill-conceived pursuit of happiness ends in tragedy.
